In early 2025 I decided to go a bit smaller for daily carry. The reasons?
My iPhone 15 Plus doesn’t need to be charged anywhere near as frequently as my iPhone 12 did. Bigger battery, newer power-efficient processor, who would have guessed?
The charger and battery really take up a bunch of space for something that’s used infrequently.
Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer to have a battery and a charger on me, so I’m not dropping that, I just decided on a size reduction. My choices for 2025 are:
Mophie Powerstation 5000mah (New)
Anker Nano 3 30w charger (New)
3ft Anker USB-C to USB-C cable
I went through a bunch of different iterations of devices to be carrying around, and end of the day these two made the most sense. They balanced known brands, capacity, and build quality very well, still charge all my devices (yes, even my Macbook Pro in a pinch!), dropped overall size in bag by about 40%, and make for a more comfortable fit in the Tom Bihn pouch I’m using for the kit.
Having variety helps me mix and match for situations too. Going out for a full day? Above is great. Travelling to Toronto for a few days of work? Maybe add a cable and swap for the two port charger. International trip? Let’s go full old kit. Overall all the components are high quality and compact, and it makes it very easy to be ready for any situation.
